You will increase your knowledge of English on a wide range of topic areas such as improving your accuracy and fluency in all four skills: spelling, listening, reading and writing.These classes are taught in English through a relevant “Skills for Life” context and learners will be expected to communicate in English during class.You will study and have practice in all aspects of English language including, for example, grammatical structure, vocabulary development, pronunciation and reading, writing, listening and speaking. Qualifications needed to start Your level is tested at registration and you are then placed accordingly any particular language needs will be addressed through the course via an Individual Learning Plan. You don’t need any formal qualifications. What qualification will I gain? You will have the opportunity to take one Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life exam per term. These are offered at various levels in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Progression on completion & career opportunities If you wish to continue with your English studies you may progress to the next level. When you have completed the higher level you can go into employment or study further at Joseph Priestley on a vocational course in order to access higher education. Will I have to take an exam? If you attend regularly you will have the opportunity to take ESOL Skills for Life examinations. How long does the course last? Various courses are provided in College at different levels:Entry 1- two afternoons per week 13:00 – 16:00Entry 2 and 3 and Level 1 – 4 mornings per week – Monday to Thursday 09.30-12.30Entry 3 / Level 1 – Friday mornings 09:30-12:30 and Level 1/2 - Wednesday afternoons 13:00-16:00 – these courses are especially suitable for learners who are working and can only attend one session per week.Entry 2 /3 – Evening course – 18:00-20:00 You must be able to change your hours and attend every class to be offered a place. How do I enrol & what are the fees? You will need to complete a placement test to check that this is the right level of class for you. Simply contact our Beeston Campus on 011... to book a place. You will need to bring proof of status to the test e.g. a passport, IND card or a letter from the Home Office regarding your status along with details of any benefits you receive. Course fees vary and depend on the number of sessions you attend per week. These will be explained in detail at the placement test. All ESOL students pay £25 (approx) registration fee. If you receive UK benefits you do not pay course fees.
